Thanks Foulke for his "very clear collation of facts about Dr. Hayes." Coppeé and others "regard any attack upon Dr. Hayes as quite unjustifiable under the circumstances." Does not have much enthusiasm for the expedition, but Hayes is the man to do it.
Thanks for Foulke's paper on "Cellular Separation." Concurs with his views and hopes that this is but part of a more complete work on prisons and prison discipline. Comments that Dickens "cannot strike anyone as doing more than most unworthily to excite our sympathy for criminals and such." Foulke's "management of his remarks is skilful and entirely satisfactory."
